RATE OF PLAY: 6 minutes a side with 2 second increment for all moves. with time handicaps. For every 150+ points between the players, time handicap of 7:5, for 300+ 8:4, for 450+ 9:3 minimum time limit is 3mins + 2 sec
ENTRIES AND REPORT:
There was a strong list of entrants with 22 players from Ennis, Sarsfield, and Limerick clubs. Top seed Rory Quinn steamrolled through the field to claim first with a 100% score. Martin O'Grady finished second on 6/7, Dan Clancy was a surprise third on 5/7, and Liam O'Brien was fourth on 4.5/7. Gerry Graham was the controller ably assisted by John Cassidy organising. The time format was a great success and it was again suggested that a similar blitz event could be held later this year. Full standings below.

Eamonn Canning(Limerick) v Liam O'Brien(Sarsfield) in round 1. Eamonn held Liam to a draw by stalemate assisted by the time handicap of 9 minutes to Liam's 3!
Ted Jennings(Limerick) v Rob Wall(Ennis). On the adjacent board are Aiden Coll v Liam O'Brien. Aiden and Ted making a comeback to chess after a long while.
James Naughton(Limerick) v Geoffrey Keating(Limerick). James is only 9 but has a promising chess future.
Cian Wall(Ennis) v John Cassidy(Ennis). Cian is quite solid with the openings and knows how to put up a defensive 'wall' against higher rated players.
Gerry Graham(Sarsfield) v Rory Quinn(Ennis). Gerry is a very popular chess tournament controller and Rory is a top tactician as shown by his result.
Michael Meaney v Pat Hayes. Amidst all the blitz games around them, Club Chairman Michael Meaney and Club President Pat Hayes are playing a friendly game.
